over the last couple of weeks...

this weekend: we dressed up in full 50's swing for a party at the bat centre; had the best veggie burgers & chocolate milkshakes at comics; gave a lovely lady a sock monkey (it was love at first sight); went to the beach a lot; had a braai with an australian, a brazilian & a pastor; watched two great movies (gran torino & youth in revolt); did a 5km walk for cancer and met the coolest dog named buster who loves to dig.

the weather is a little confused at the moment - it went from 41ºc the one day to 20ºc the next! i can't wait for summer, i've missed the humidity. wayne and i went down to the beach everyday this week after work. i walked, he surfed.

the monkeys are finished! the biege one is for a lovely lady who lives in my building, and the brown one is for wayne. he named him steve.

my mum bought me a beautiful orchid, a gift to congratulate me on my new job! i'm counting down the days: 16 to go!

some exciting news - i got a job at disturbance! i'm starting in october and i can't stop smiling. it's unreal. i have always wanted to work there and i finally have my chance ^_^ the office is so beautifully designed, there is so much light and air (i'm going to have a window!), and the people i'll be working with, they're the best! i can't wait to start...

wayne is so proud and happy - he took me to the roma revolving restaurant to celebrate. we drank champagne and enjoyed a 360 view of our city. i wore an old dress with some new shoes.

i have finally caught my breath and am slowly getting up to speed with my life! work has been manic lately, i worked all of last weekend including women's day! i'm not sure where to start, so i'll start with meeting monika. what a great friend i have found! well technically monika found me but hey i'm so glad she did! it's like we've known each other all of our lives! here are some of the things we got up to when monika & teemu were visiting...

we rode in the cable car up onto the top of the stadium

i had the best time on saturday! the weather was just perfect and the airshow brilliant. wayne flew a helicopter in a formation flight of 7 machines! i didn't know until the last second, what a lovely surprise! we went to the wings club afterward with friends. the night included: free breyani, meeting all 5 silver falcons and shirt signing. i love airshow day.

today i went to my gran's funeral in howick. it was held in a little church called st lukes. it was a lovely service, very old school and i think she would of liked it. wayne's mum made us some macaroni cheese for dinner, so tonight i think i will stay indoors away from the howling wind, enjoy the meal and watch a dvd. oh on saturday it's the durban airshow at the virginia airport, i can't wait!

my dear grandmother passed away today. she was 87 and sharp as a tack. she had such a great sense of humor, i really enjoyed her company, i love how she dressed and did her hair and how she always remembered everyone's names. she will be missed terribly. as one life ends another must begin. my step sister is giving birth to her baby girl samantha tomorrow.

the long weekend

thursday: i had the day off and decided to go to the bank to sort out and organize my financial life. after that wayne & i went to the refresh cafe inside the everfresh market. we got to choose our own ingredients for a stir fry & a fresh fruit smoothie for only R30! what a bargain! you can choose from lentils, chickpeas, carrots, pineapple to peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, pumpkin seeds and so much more. we drove to the beach to enjoy the view and our tasty treats. in the afternoon i visited my sister. we were under blankets watching mona lisa smile - perfect for a cold day.

friday: i woke up early and did some secondhand shopping. i found some old postcards, envelopes, vintage laces & two button up blouses. wayne & i couldn't help ourselves and went to the refresh cafe again for lunch. it's that good. in the afternoon i went along to the verulam drivers department. my drivers was stolen a couple months back and i've been needing to get a new one for awhile now. i expected long queues and a huge mission but it only took me about 20 minutes.

friday night: it was my mum & greg's housewarming party. the whole family was there and as usual my mum's food was incredibly tasty and her home looked like a magazine shoot. i don't know how she does it.

saturday: wayne, jess & i went to the essenwood market for pancakes, but unfortunately the stand closed on account of hundreds of bees! still craving something sweet we went to the botanic gardens for strawberry jam & cream scones. that night we watched the imaganariam of dr parnassus at the cinema nouveau.

sunday: fathers day, we met wayne's dad and family at the kznsa gallery. we then met greg, my mum & jess at green with envy for fathers day date number two a bit later on. brownies & ice cream, yum. i really need to start eating properly again, i blame the winter cold. food keeps me warm and happy.

today: it's my friends birthday and we're going to taco zulu to celebrate. burritos, mojitos & spanish football here we come!
wayne left for vryheid this morning so it'll be another whole week without him. i miss him already :(

friday was definitely not a working day. firstly my boss brought her brand new little jack russel puppy to work - that was me for about an hour. her name is milo and she is the cutest thing i've ever seen. secondly our office closed at 1pm for the opening of the fifa world cup - i rushed off to my mum's house to watch it on her big screen tv. wayne was driving back from vryheid and made it for the second half of the game. and what an exciting game it was! my mom made us pasta salad for lunch and then later cheese & tomato omelets for dinner. greg then got the beatles cds out and we had a singing marathon. the poor neighbors.

on saturday we slept in and had strawberry pops in bed. i then went shopping for a gift for my step sister's baby shower. she's having a girl. i bought her some cute grey & yellow stripey leggings, long sleeve vests, a russian baby doll bib & some natural wipes. she loved them :) rene is glowing and looking so happy and calm. when i'm pregnant one day i hope i'm that happy and calm.

on sunday wayne and i were privileged enough to be invited to fire through the window's new music video shoot!! it was quite a long day but i had an amazing time! i can't give away to much information but it was a tea party with balloons, candy floss, bubbles, cupcakes & great music. pretty much my heaven. i had way too much sugar & was giggling the whole day. i will post the video as soon as it is finished, i can't wait! after we helped clean up wayne & i went to umhlanga beach. wayne surfed and i sat on the sand blowing the remainder of the bubbles :)

today i was at work and tonight i've been doing some more camera research. wayne and i have decided we're going for the canon s90! we really want the nikon d90 but for now a little pocket camera seems suitable. we'll get the d90 a bit later on and then we'll have two really amazing cameras. i'm so excited!

tomorrow is going to feel like a friday because wednesday is a public holiday (youth day). i'm also getting thursday & friday off! yay for long weekends :)

my sister arrived yesterday! jess, my mum, greg & i all went along to the greek hellenic hall last night to welcome the greek team! there were so many people there, all dressed in blue & white, flags waving and lots of smiles (please excuse the blurry photo's but it was really that chaotic!). four players arrived, took pictures, signed autographs, made speeches, ate and then left. very quick but thrilling nonetheless! i got two signatures - one was from the captain himself:) it's quite exciting to see so many foreign people in our city. there are 3 days to go until the opening ceremony & first games! our office closes at 1 o'clock on friday so we can go home and watch it all.

wayne left yesterday for one whole week. his flight school has moved up to vryheid over the world cup because the airspace is very restricted & busy. wayne will be there for three weeks! even though it's only one week at a time i will still miss him terribly :(

on friday night we went to visit luke at his flat. he lives 5 floors below us. the night involved xbox, star trek & dancing in a small kitchen.

saturday was a beautiful day so we decided to go to addington beach to enjoy the sun & surf. the city is looking so lovely & clean at the moment. on saturday night we went to a birthday braai (barbeque).

on sunday we went back to greenpoint beach trying to imitate the great time we had last weekend. unfortunately it was terribly windy and unbearable so we went to the shops for sandwich supplies, got a dvd and then went home to enjoy both. after that we walked down the road to the currie road lookout. fire through the window opened for zebra and giraffe at the botanic gardens and we could hear them playing:)

last night we had sushi and spoke about cameras & chairs. after that wayne & ernest fixed the second hand typewriter we found a couple months back. it works perfectly now! i will have to type them a thank-you letter.

on monday my sister jess is coming up for the school holidays, she will be staying with my mum. jess is a teacher and has a whole month off due to the world cup! unfortunately i still have to work. there are 7 days to go until the opening ceremony, and everyone seems to be very excited - there are flags everywhere! on cars, people, houses, gates. you can hear vuvuzelas from miles away, and i've seen a lot of soccer jerseys for sale straight out of car boots! only in africa.

tonight i might get some more sushi. it's addictive. be careful. i hope you have a happy weekend! ♥

i can't believe it's monday already! i'm at work reminiscing about the lovely & relaxing time i had this weekend, drinking my orange juice from vida cafe. how clever is their packaging!

on saturday morning wayne, ernest & i went to check out a couple of second hand shops. we saw some really cool side tables, tea trolleys, office chairs, fans and cabinets. after that we went to the hardware store (wardkiss) to buy a door for our desk! with my measurements in hand we chose the best door we could find and had it cut to the perfect size. i also thought of getting a small piece of wood to act as a side table next to our bed. we only paid R200 for all of that, what a bargain :)

the door is now next to our window on two trestle legs and it looks great! we don't have a chair yet, but i'm sure we'll find a suitable one soon.

on saturday night we watched a dvd and i made some pasta for dinner. we watched waltz with bashir. it was very well done. a truly beautiful & real, yet disturbing animation.

on sunday we took a road trip down the south coast to a place called greenpoint. it's a beautiful beach with great waves and lots of rock pools! i found so many pretty shells! wayne was surfing for most of the day, and ernest got a new camera so was testing it out. after that we had burgers & tea at a little restaurant right on the beach. i really love this time of year, the weather is just perfect! ♥

so as i said in the previous post - i got hold of the work camera! it's not the greatest camera in the world, but beggars can't be choosers! so with that in hand i can now finally show off my presents from monika! the envelope (marimekko) is so beautiful & inside there were lots of goodies! - the cutest panda card & letter (artbox); an expired slide film which i can't wait to use!

the sun rose at about 6.15 this morning and it was beautiful.
my mum fetched me for our lunch date at about 12.30pm. we try do it every week but sometimes we get too busy. it was my treat today and we went to the market! i had a hot chocolate and a falafel wrap & my mum had a lentil burger and a carrot, pineapple & ginger squeeze. we shared a vanilla & chocolate cheese cake for dessert, and my mum had her usual chai tea. a local band played - guitar, trumpet, cello and drums, lovely mellow music to listen to while you are eating and chatting.

it's terribly windy and dry outside today. the wind picked up this afternoon and is now gusting 37km/h! there are a lot of road closures today and tomorrow for the fifa world cup. the last couple of months there have been so many disruptions to our roads and it's been driving everyone mad! it's worth all the trouble in the end, but it's so hard to go anywhere with all the traffic and rubble. on sunday it's the comrades marathon, and they'll be closing the roads for that aswell. it's decided, i'm staying at home this weekend, all warm and safe from any road rage!

tonight wayne's getting us some take out & a dvd ^_^

it's getting a little colder every evening the closer it gets to winter. i just got home from a very long day, the sun is going down. wayne's going to make us a veg stir fry while i do some sewing ^_^

it's finally here! i must admit it's been a very long month of limiting myself, but no longer! here are a couple things that i'm looking forward to getting this month:

1. a peg board - la & i are going to buy one together and cut it in half to share.

2. a wooden door - aidan gave wayne and i some trestle legs so we're going to combine them with a door and create a desk! i wish it was my original idea but unfortunately it's been done many times before.

3. a chair, lamp and desk accessories for our new desk - woolies have some really nice lime green lamps that i have my eyes on!

4. some interesting coffee mugs.

5. developing my two films that have been sitting in my bag for weeks and weeks!

6. a present for the lovely monika ^_^ she is arriving in south africa in less than two weeks!

7. a hair cut - my hair is getting sooo long and i need to feel fresh again.

the blood bank is coming to our offices tomorrow! i'm going to make sure i eat a big healthy breakfast so i can donate. it will be my 15th time donating! noddy badge for me:)

saturday: wayne and i pretty much slept the whole day! i also read my new book and organized the flat.

sunday: i made some potato salad and a four bean salad for our picnic at giba gorge! i've never been there before, there's bikes, ramps, a lovely restaurant with an amazing gift shop and a lot of kids - they were everywhere! we met our friends there who have two children:

1. skyler, age 4 - a very sharp little girl who gets away with murder! after eating two cupcakes she asked me why i brought a chocolate bar if we already had cupcakes. i said just in case. sky then asked why in case? i replied just in case we run out of energy and get a bit tired later on. she then lay down and said to me she was very tired, clever little thing!

2. noah, age 2 - very cute, very naughty and wants his mum and dad at all times. he kept putting stones in the water fountain and running away. he also loved the cupcakes!

after that we went to check out the organic shop next to the restaurant. they sell organic veggies, you can pick your own which is great, and they also sell yummy olive pastes and coffees. the south jersey pom-poms were playing on the lawn. i really like them, eva has such an amazing voice and she oozes style.

it was then time to go home. last night wayne and i went to his mum's house for some dinner. a good weekend all round!

today: i have been at work and can't wait to get home to do some more reading in bed!

the handmade marketplace is now mine!

last night i got some presents from la, aidan and noe! they really did spoil me - i got a beautiful bag, amazing covered button magnets (all made by lauren), a cute little notebook and the handmade market place by kari chapin! thanks so much guys!! i think most of my time this weekend will be spent reading :)
